Nsanga 13th commemoration day The event that happened on 14th April 2007 at Nsanga was a very important collaboration of youth from different backgrounds—from Rwanda and other Great Lakes countries—and from very different socio-economic classes: there were refugee Congolese youth from Gihembe Refugee Camp in Byumba, orphans of the Rwanda genocide from Association of the Orphans of Nsanga (AON), and Never Again Rwanda (NAR) youth from different levels of social mobility. Peace building and
Information Center
We have recently acquired a center in the Nyamirambo
district of Kigali which will become our main head quarters
for peace building and planning future projects. The center
will offer access to computers and the Internet and a number
of publications on peace and conflict, human rights, and
other pertinent global social issues. We envision the center
as a hub of information sharing and creative energy for
peace building activities.
Summer Youth Peace Institutes
We plan to offer summer training and internship placement
for youth from Canada, the United States and Rwanda. Over
the course of one month these youth will meet to become
educated in the causes and consequences of the Rwandan
genocide and address ways they can help prevent another
genocide from never again occurring. The foreign
participants will also contribute and gain valuable
experience as volunteers for a number of civil society
organizations during their stay.
Radio for Peace
Never Again – Rwanda and partner Radio La Benevolencija are
teaming up to create five youth listener clubs in secondary
schools. Club members will meet to listen to “Generation
Grands Lacs”, a Radio La Benevolencija program, which
explore the roots of conflict and contribute to building a
culture of peace.
Youth Engagement in Debates for Freedom of Speech
The project furthers our goals of promoting freedom of
expression and youth participation in dialogue on vital
issues concerning Rwandan society. In this project we will
expand the impact of debates through publicity in the mass
media. Specifically debates will be broadcast on the radio,
television and in a documentary film, as well as their
results covered in Rwandan newspapers. We envision this
project as stimulating discussion on the themes of the
project throughout all sectors of society; we hope it will
engage many more than just the direct beneficiaries.
Youth Newspaper:
We aim to create a national youth newspaper to build a youth
community of readership. The newspaper would also promote
open exchange and engagement in current issues through
engaging youth in the production and authorship of opinion
pieces. As the youth newspaper would completely be run and
managed by youth, the project would build youth capacity in
the field of print media as well.
Opening Doors to Other Regions:
We plan to expand Never Again clubs to other parts of the
Great Lakes Region, as we feel that the youth of these
nations can also benefit from this establishment and
activities. We hope to see clubs in Burundi and the
Democratic Republic of the Congo in the near future.
